Nissan Safari Rally Z Tribute Unveiled At SEMA 2023

Nissan has just unveiled the Nissan Safari Rally Z at SEMA, a nod to the Datsun 240Z's impressive victory at the 1971 East African Safari Rally with a whole host of NISMO parts under the hood.

A modern twist on a historic winner, the Nissan Safari Rally Z Tribute emerges as a celebration of the iconic Z car lineage. The 2023 tribute transforms Nissan's Z platform into an off-road rally machine, sporting a two-inch lift and Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 tyres ensuring the car is ready for any terrain.

The V6 platform has been tuned and revamped by AMS performance, pushing beyond the factory 400 horsepower. It hasn't been specified how much power the engine makes, but under the hood you'll also find some fresh new bits including a new exhaust system, carbon fibre engine cover, cold air intake and a twin-disc clutch and flywheel.

There's also plenty of added protection for rugged terrains including a sturdy front bumper guard and a skid plate, ensuring the vehicle's essentials remain unscathed during off-road adventures. Lighting the way are Nismo Off-Road driving lights, integrated seamlessly onto the Tommy Pike Customs front hood and bumper guard.

This isn't the first time Nissan has honored the 1971 East African Safari Rally's Datsun 240Z. A few years back, Nissan introduced a Juke-based concept inspired by the same rally legend. The current tribute, however, was crafted by the talented team at Tommy Pike Customs from South Carolina, known for their creations for previous SEMA shows. This year, they brought the modified Z sports car to the stage, standing proud next to a replica of the original Datsun 240Z Safari.

While it isn't likely we'll see this go into production, it might spawn the sale of a few new NISMO bits owners can get their hands on in the coming months.
