'Hoon' Laws Hardened

The heavy handed hoon laws have yet again been strengthened in a continuation of the NSW Police's crusade against modified car owners. As of two days ago, Police have the power to immediately seize a vehicle travelling at 45km/h over the limit or that is engaged in "illegal racing, drag racing, hooning" or a Police pursuit. I personally have no issue with harsh punishments where harsh punishments are due and breaking the speed limit by such a large margin or attempting to evade Police are offences that do require a large deterrent such as losing your vehicle.

What I do have an issue with, however, is the introduction of tough measures based on vague terms that can be applied liberally by Police, possibly to the detriment of myself and other enthusiasts. Who defines what is classed as hooning or racing? How many times have you heard of someone you know being branded a hoon and read the riot act after getting up to the speed limit briskly off the lights or momentarily losing traction on a wet road? This is yet another measure that gives Police free reign to target enthusiasts under the umbrella term 'hoon' that is so popular with the public right now and even worse, makes it easier for them to confiscate your pride and joy.

If you haven't got the impression by now, I am quite passionate about this issue so in the interest of an unbiased opinion and a fair argument, here is a link to a more neutral article outlining the details. As enthusiasts though, I'm sure many of you will agree with me but hey, I could also be way out of line. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
