With this switcheroo, the Civic Type R-GT will be taking on the challenge of the GT500 category, going head-to-head against the Toyota GR Supras and the Nissan Zs.
The genesis of this thrilling development can be traced back to January 2023 when HRC unveiled the jaw-dropping Civic Type R-GT concept. Since then, this powerhouse has been put through its paces during intense track testing at the legendary Okayama International Circuit in Japan.
The decision to part ways with the NSX-GT came about after the production of the iconic road-going NSX supercar ceased in 2022. Known as the Honda NSX in some markets like Japan, Canada, and Australia, it was branded as the Acura NSX in the United States, making it a true legend of the automotive world.
In accordance with the GT500 regulations, the Civic Type R-GT will sport a roaring 2.0-litre single-turbo inline four-cylinder engine, perfectly paired with a nimble six-speed paddle-shift gearbox.
But that's not all - HRC is following the rules to the letter and ensuring the new contender stays true to the GT500 ethos by making it a rear-wheel drive machine, in contrast to its street-ready front-wheel-drive sibling.
Though HRC has kept the power outputs of the race car under wraps for now, it's worth noting that their current NSX-GT boasts a jaw-dropping 405kW of power and a monstrous 490Nm of torque.
So, hold on to your seats and get ready for an adrenaline-pumping Super GT season like never before, as the Honda Civic Type R-GT revs up to take on the fiercest competition Japan has to offer! Drivers are yet to be announced.
