Home Built Twin Turbo Holden HZ Belts Out 1400RWHP!

This big boosted HZ makes over a ton at the treads, with no LS anywhere to be seen!

I’ve had a bit to say about Adelaide over the years. Ask anyone that’ll listen and they’ll tell you that if Adelaide was an Uber driver, I wouldn’t have left a tip. I don’t hate the place, I just think that if you watch Grand Designs Australia without the sound on then you’ll have just as much fun as you could in South Australia.

That withstanding, it’s really difficult for me to deny that the state has been - and continues to be - one of the most prolific contributors to genuine, Pro Street cars in the country. They build effing tough muscle cars, and I don’t know why, but I’m all for it.

BOHZZ Racing’s HZ Premier is a bloody good example. Outwardly, the Prem’ just looks like another menacing toughy rolling on big Weld Wheels, but keen eyes will spy the intercooler piping and angled end tanks hanging below the front valance.

Under the bonnet, a 400-cube small block Chev’ has been treated to some of the best big horsepower parts money can buy, and cops a beating from twin Pulsar G42 turbos.

The whole shebang boasts a catalogue worth of Haltech gear - Nexus R5 VCU, an iC7 dash and a host of other gadetry that help the HZ put over 1400rwhp to the ground. It’s using every bit of that big power too, and has been terrorising Roll Racing in Adelaide with three consecutive wins!

The rest of the driveline looks as you’d expect, with a transbraked Powerglide filling the tunnel and a 9in diff in the rear.

Recently, the crew got the good news that they’d been accepted in to Street Machine’s Drag Challenge event - a week long drag and drive event that sorts the men from the boys in the performance car world, and one that the BOHZZ team have been avidly preparing for. To date, the HZ has run a best of 8.2sec down the quarter making it pretty competitive, if previous events are anything to go by.
