In standard trim, the latest evolution of the Nissan GT-R is impressive to say the least. So when renowned Evo tuning wizards AMS Performance in the U.S. started to modify them, we sat up and took notice. After much experimentation they have come up with their current configuration; a 1600whp example dubbed the 'AMS Alpha Omega GT-R' and hell bent on being the quickest of it's kind.
At TX2K12, the beastly GT-R smashed the model's 1/4 mile record with a 8.62 @ 173.81mph but the team at AMS wanted to give it the opportunity to really stretch it's legs. The standing mile record stood at 218mph and last weekend, it was absolutely obliterated. With a conservative 1050whp tune the GT-R managed 221mph but of course, they wanted to go quicker.
Boost was raised and the power level reached 1250whp, still well below Alpha Omega's potential. In previous runs the car had been a bit floaty due to the minimal aero but the team decided it was worth having one more all out crack, with a whopping 233.1mph trap speed being the result. Once the 'chute was pulled however, things got a bit hairy as a dip in the runway threw the rear wheels in the air and sent the world's fastest GT-R sliding out of control. Check out the video below to see driver Ivan Phipps do a fantastic job of wrestling the monster back under control to smash the world record by just over 15mph!
