Meguiar's MotorEx, Australia's premier custom car show, will feature over 800 cars and bikes, including Peter Sauer's 1970 Holden HG Brougham, Wayne Price's Bare Metal HK Monaro, Dean Prodger's GROT HK Monaro, Axel Soydas' Rocket Bunny Mazda FD RX7, and Paul Tinning's Twin-Turbo V10 Ford XP Falcon Coupe.
Five Favourite Rides From Meguiar's MotorEx 2022

Australia's premiere custom car show, Meguiar's MotorEx, is fast approaching on the events calendar for 2023. As to be expected, MotorEx is the home of Australia's very best rides, with well over 800 cars and bikes taking over the Melbourne Showgrounds for a celebration of all things automotive. Picking out your favourites from the show is no easy task, but we've gone ahead and picked out just a few of the mad rides that'll show you just the level you can expect to see come May.

Peter Sauer's 1970 Holden HG Brougham - BEWARND

Peter's killer new build 'BEWARND' was part of MotorEx's biggest unveil list ever, and it was by far one of the crowd favourites. The big Holden Brougham packs a punch with a 565ci Dart-blocked rat motor with a pair of 88mm Garrett turbochargers strapped to the side. What's even more impressive is the attention to detail to which this build has been finished.

The big-bodied sedan is painted in a gorgeous custom blue/turquoise paint, and it still maintains most of its factory hooks, and you'd be none the wiser to the extent of the build if you saw it cruising on the streets.

Wayne Price's Bare Metal HK Monaro

With decades spent judging Australia’s top modified cars, you pay attention when Owen Webb says he’s found the most impressive bodywork he’s ever seen on a car. The legendary painter and show judge doesn’t mince words when it comes to Wayne Price’s Monaro: “I have no problem saying this is the best bodywork I’ve ever seen on a car”, says Webby.

Wayne's Monaro sure did not disappoint after its unveil at Meguiar's MotorEx. Having drag raced for over 30 years and with some cool street machines in his shed, Wayne decided he wanted a car with presence. He dropped a rusty HK 307ci GTS off at Andrew’s Automotive Restorations in Braeside, Melbourne, to start a cosmetic restoration but it soon escalated to what you see today.

Dean Prodger brings the GROT back to life!

We were all pretty stoked to hear that one of Australia's most iconic drag cars, raced by the late John Taverna and his mate Phil Facciolo. The GROT HK Monaro was a staple of the Australian drag racing scene in the 70's competing across the country, but was left to wreck in in Ballarat for over 20 years.

It's a real credit to Dean for the work he put into this car, to restore a car of this nature back to better than its original condition. It was just wicked to see this parked up in the hall at MotorEx, just as it would have sat over fifty years ago in the pits at a drag race meet.

Axel Soydas 'HLK20B' Rocket Bunny Mazda FD RX7

Axe's Mazda FD RX7 is one that we've seen around the MotorEx halls before, and it's killer stance and elite-level finish is one we'll never get sick of. The RX7 has been built with the best parts from around the world, mixing Japanese and Australian style to create a one-of-a-kind RX7. Under the hood is a mega 900hp 3-rotor 20B, with a Comp Turbo CT6X billet turbo, Precision 66mm wastegate, and six Siemens Deka 2400cc injectors.

The kit is a Rocket Bunny widebody, allowing this RX7 to tuck the massive 20x9.5(F) and 20x11(R) SSR Professor SP1 Wheels. It features a bunch of japanese-goodies including Ganador mirrors, an RE Amemiya carbon bonnet, Car Shop Glow's carbon ducktail spoiler and plenty more. It's no surprise this green machine took out the Top Tuner award at Meguiar's MotorEx last time around.

Paul Tinning's Twin-Turbo V10 Ford XP Falcon Coupe

Possibly the wildest engine swap we saw at MotorEx, Darwin local Paul Tinning made the 3500-plus kilometre trek to Melbourne to unveil his twin-turbo Dodge Viper powered V10 Ford XP Falcon Coupe. Of course the crown jewel of this car is the engine combo, but looking past that for a moment you'll see a real elite-level custom build with a trick as they come interior, gorgeous underbody and a fantastic metallic paint job that really sets this car off.

The engine is a Dodge 8.3-litre V10 with Twin NRE 72mm snails strapped to the side. It's all controlled via a Haltech Nexus R5 and we might just add that this thing has three pedals and a T56 six-speed manual. If only we could convince Webby to let us start it up in the unveil hall a few times... (he keeps it all under pretty tight reign during the show.) It's also worth mentioning that Paul took out the Laurie Starling Engineering Excellence Award for 2022.

We could go on and on with some of the insane cars (maybe we'll get around to do a part two in a week or so), but just looking at these five makes us really excited for whats to come at Meguiar's MotorEx come May 6-7. Webby and Rach are hard at work working on all of the unveil cars, plus we're excited to see the return of some previous Meguiar's Superstars. It's going to be a big one, so make sure you head down to Melbourne and help us celebrate MotorEx turning the big 21!
