Extreme Auto Adelaide 2022, Meguiar’s Superstars Round

Words: Owen Webb

How good to be back in Adelaide for Extreme Auto Show on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th November. Geoff (show owner/promotor) has been presenting this show for over 15 years in different formats and he has definitely struck the right mix.

The show opened from 5pm to 10pm Friday night, and 9am to 5pm Saturday with a huge cruise Saturday night. This is also a round of Meguiar’s Superstars where four qualifiers get an invitation to MotorEx next year. As with many events at this time they battled the weather but got the show bumped in with around 200 entrants and good spectator numbers over the two days.

Extreme always has a large variety of vehicles with elite, street elite, muscle, tuff street, race, JDM, exotic and some awesome bikes. One standout car was last year’s Grand Master from MotorEx, Brenton Dalwood’s '35 Ford Coupe. This is one of the best cars ever built in this country, mainly by Brenton and his son Brad. This was a 10-year build, almost flawless across all the judging areas. There was a lot of 3D printed parts, electronics throughout the car to keep it up with today’s technology. He debuted it at this show last year and won every event he attended over the last 12 months, including MotorEx - and now he’s driving it. He had just used it for his daughter’s wedding and even cruised down a gravel road!

Adelaide has always been exceptional for beautifully restored muscle cars. This year there were several HT, HG Monaros and a couple of Ford XW Falcon GTs. One in the build from Southern Classics is a phase 1.5 GTHO which is truly amazing. These cars are so beyond restored, way better than they ever were off the factory line - and now worth around $1,000,000 for this level. The work from Southern Classics is exceptional as they make the majority of the panels required, including quarter panels for XA, XB and XC Falcon Coupe models - you can’t buy them anywhere and so many are being restored.

We qualified four cars for MotorEx; HT Holden Monaro, ’34 Chevrolet Tudor, Holden LX Torana Hatchback and a Holden LC Torana. These cars will join another 22 cars at MotorEx next May in Melbourne to fight out for the Grand Master award. There will also be 21 previous winners on display as we start the MotorEx Hall Of Fame. This is something close to my heart as we have preserve and display our history and be proud of these builds and see the progression and innovation of builders.

Another great Extreme show finished up with over 200 cars on the Saturday night cruise, hopefully all back again next year!
