Driving Sports Twilight Drift

Driving Sports Twilight Drift

The Driving Sports’ Twilight Drift events have become somewhat of an institution for Sydney-siders of the sideways persuasion, so when we caught wind of one happening on the 21st of April, we knew we should get down there and check it out.

On at least one weekend a month, the focus at Eastern Creek International Raceway changes from lap times to mad lines as the drifters descend on three different layouts that cater for all skill levels.

For the beginners or those conscious of tyre wear, the wet pan is the place to be.

There is always something to watch on the wet pan and it’s surprising the variety of cars you see getting out there to have a crack.

For those a bit more confident in themselves, the extremely short dry circuit known as ‘The Peanut’ is the next step up.

A long right-hand sweeper followed by a quick left, right and another right is all that one lap consists of but considering you are only out there for a couple of minutes at a time, it makes for a great layout and allows intermediate drifters to tweak their driving style run after run.

Entry onto these two tracks is the same price and the Driving Sports guys allow entrants to chop and change between the tracks as much as they please, nurturing a real progression in skill level.

The wet pan and Peanut are connected by the car park where you will find the usual Fusion Sound Off/Show N Shine to keep those not behind the wheel entertained.

Once you’ve graduated from these smaller tracks, the famous Eastern Creek circuit itself awaits.

With the new link road recently opened, it is now possible to utilise turns 1 and 2 before ducking through the link road and hitting the usual 9-12 making for a much longer and more enjoyable run.

This is where the big boys come out to play, with our resident drift expert Steve Pembrey getting out there in his 2GR-powered AE86 to grab us a bit of on-track footage as you can see in the video below.

The Twilight Drift events really do cater to all skill levels and for those of you who regularly get down there, we want to hear your thoughts.

If you were there on the 21st of April in particular, let us know how you went and if you weren’t, check out the Driving Sports website or Facebook page for details on when you can catch the next one!
