This weekend will see the Australian Nationals taking over Sydney Dragway with the ANDRA Pro Series and Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship combining to provide three days of quality action packed entertainment for fans.
The event was launched last weekend at the hugely popular, end of month meet at Harry’s Café in Liverpool. While people mingled around the beautiful pieces of metal on show the ANDRA guys had set up a display with a Dragster and Super Sedan gaining interest with every passing minute.
“Yeah it was a little bit of a different way to kick of the series," says ANDRA Media Manager Luke Nieuwhof. "Still, the display went really well, I mean the dragster is a bit of an odd thing out there so it grabbed peoples attention. Someone even said 'isn’t that a bit of overkill harry’s?', but it did exactly what it needed to and drew people to it who hadn't seen one for a long time".
It was Team Aeroflow who were present with their Dragster and many team members were going through the process of preparing the car for firing up the vehicle. As the team worked feverishly, enthusiasts proudly rolled past in their couple of hundred horsepower machines, giving a few blips of the throttle to show of how much power they had under the bonnet.
However, as word spread around the car park that the Aeroflow team actually planned to start the dragster, crowds gathered and anticipation grew, while no amount of revving from the streetable engines could drag the interested onlookers away.
"These are the exact people who would be interested in the drags, it's why we came here tonight. These are people who are already in to motorsport and if they love an event like Harry's every month, they are going to love what we have set for them at Sydney Dragway. Most people tonight have said they haven't been to the drags for fifteen years or more. Really they need to come out again, everything has changed so much and it is very exciting".
Finally, once an agreeable size crowd had gathered, the Dragster was fired up. Instantly nothing was audible above the noise of the engine firing. Ears ringing as they failed to adequately adapt to the intense noise, fingers were shoved in to protect from the noise, yet doing little to dim the explosion of sound.
Yet the excitement of just seeing this car start cannot come close to watching it and other categories making passes down the quarter mile. The best news is that there will be three complete days of on track action, allowing ample time to see these impressive machines blast down the track. A couple of hundred cars are bound to turn up as well, with the variety of racers and races to keep everyone from Rotor head to V8 nut entertained.
Adult tickets start at $25 for Friday’s racing, kids under 12 will get in free all weekend, and ladies entry is FREE on Sunday, that’s right FREE. "Combined with entertainment for the kids, we have trade stands coming, there will be free pit entry, Shannon's are putting on a show’n’shine and also the XXXX Gold retreat will be on site for the weekend. As well as all of this we have Schlam playing live Saturday night, that's Jimmy Barnes nephew's band, it's going to be very good. There really isn’t any reason why you shouldn’t get out to Sydney Dragway this weekend and see some great racing".
We couldn't agree more and can't wait to see you all trackside!
