Burnouts, Drag & Street - This NASCAR-powered Holden VK Commodore Does It All (VIDEO)

If you're a fan of high-revving V8s, there's few cars in Australia that have a go like Jono's Commodore. You just love to listen to it.

Jono Kelly’s 9000-plus RPM R5P7 Dodge Mopar Holden Commodore can smash tyres, run slick times at the drags, and also isn’t bad at popping down the shops for an ice cream. This car does it all.

Last year at Red CentreNATS we caught up with Jono Kelly to chat about his insane Holden VK Commodore. Originally, ‘3FIVE5’ was a white Holden-powered burnout weapon. An unfortunate fire that claimed the entire car meant that Jono had to build a new car to take to events.

Done as a Brock tribute car, Jono’s new 3FIVE5 sports an Adelaide-sourced NASCAR engine that punches out over 800hp. That’s a handy figure for just about any form of motorsport. Which is why Jono uses the car for burnout competitions, drag racing and more.

Jono won the Pro Class at Red CentreNATS 07, winning himself a ticket to the big show at Summernats (he’d actually already won a ticket, so that trickled down to the next runner).

The Mopar engine doesn’t fit too easily into a Holden VK, so some custom handy work to the headers, amongst other things, has been carried out to ensure things are just right. Between burnouts and drag racing Jono switches diff gears to make sure the ratios are best suited.

What you’re looking at is a street car, a pro burnout comp’ winner and a 10-second drag car all rolled into a tribute VK SS Group A. This weapon was built to be used. Hear more about this awesome buildfrom Jono and JBens in the video below.
