Burnout at Bathurst

Burnout at Bathurst

The wildly popular and successful Autofest series made its first trip to Bathurst last weekend. And despite the presence of lingering thunderstorms out west, the clouds held off for the event, allowing the schedule to be run without a hiccup.

With entrant numbers at a reasonable level, every competitor got a great amount of track time. Nowhere was this more evident than in the go-to-whoa event held along pit straight. Starting from the fifth row on the grid, each car got the chance to grudge race mates down the straight before trying to stop in the area specified near the marshal's box at turn one.

Of course, some matchups saw entrants get a little too excited, trying to get the power down in a cloud of smoke, before shooting past the stopping area unable to regain control of their vehicle in time.

The burnout pad was situated out the back of pit lane, where race teams usually park their transporters. A huge open area had been fenced off for the event, easily able to accommodate about five cars doing burnouts at once, if that was possible. Yet entrants still managed to find their way close to the walls, some even getting stuck in the corners.

The drivers who could stay in the middle and out of trouble were able to turn on some impressive burnout displays. While we were shooting on the weekend, we also managed to film video of a couple of burnouts for your enjoyment. Check out the footage below, both of our overview of the event and seven full burnout videos for your enjoyment!
