Blown VA Show-Stopper

Steven Loader, known for his intense skid cars, is working on a new project: transforming a stock VE Commodore into a custom showstopper for Meguiar’s MotorEx 2012. The car will feature a blown injected big block engine, custom paint, and extensive interior trimming. Despite its show-oriented focus, Loader plans to use the car for tyre-smashing performance post-debut.

The man behind one of the most intense skid cars in the country, Steven Loader, has got himself a new project which sets to expand his fleet of Holden-badged tyre destroyers, and what’s more, he’s doing what many argue can’t be done and taking a brand new VE Commodore from stock standard SV6 road car to a tubbed, trimmed and custom painted blown big block show stopper in time for Meguiar’s MotorEx 2012.

“I’m a Holden man... I’m more old school usually,” begins Loader as we ask what attracted him to the VE shell after such stellar success with his universally famous black HT sedan. “I like the Commodore,” he continues, before alluding to a few other late model vehicles being built in a similar style being debuted at the event, too. Not wanting to be left behind, Loader and the crew have rushed to work.

“It’s a similar combo to the HT, the blown injected big block,” he reveals, dispelling rumours flooding the internet that it’s simply the engine from UCSMOKE jammed into a Commodore. “The chassis is done now,” he continues, speaking of the ¾ chassis clip that makes up the rear half of the VE, joined by a 4-link and shortened 9in diff’ to suit the deep dish Intro billet wheels.

“It will be at the painter on Monday,” he tells of the tight deadline he and the team are working to. The paint scheme at this stage looks like it will involve the standard orange paint on the bottom with a custom orange laid over the top, divided by a graphics scheme.

The car will be fully trimmed inside yet undeniably functional. “It won’t have a cage,” Loader interrupts, insisting that the car will be more show-oriented with its extensively smoothed engine bay, shiny wheels and custom paint/trim combo. He makes no bones about the car’s purpose though, and is committed to smashing tyres off it as soon as he can after the vehicle’s debut.

The car is set to debut at MotorEx 2012 on July 21-22 in Sydney, and we’re hoping to lock it in for a date in our studio while it’s in town. Keep checking back with Performance Garage for updates.
