Bathurst International 2023: The Open Wheel Cavalcade

This year's Supercheap Auto Bathurst International may feature a grand display of F1 and IndyCar machines roaring around Mount Panorama. Organisers today unveiled plans for an Open Wheel 'Cavalcade', set to take the stage in November. This spectacle will comprise six 20-minute demonstration sessions over three intense days of track action.

A Blend of Classic and Contemporary Machines

An expected field of 10 significant Formula cars will include a blend of classic and modern Formula One cars, Indy Cars, and Formula Renault 3.5 V8, among other high-performance 'wings and slicks' racers. Notably, S5000 cars, despite their 2022 round at Mount Panorama being cancelled for safety reasons, will also join the lineup. Car owners and prospective drivers are invited to nominate themselves, with selections made based on vehicle safety, number of cars, and driver ability.

Live Broadcasting and Event Details

The sessions scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will be broadcast live and ad-free on Stan Sport, with the cars housed in the permanent pit lane garages. The event, headlined by a round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series - part of the Kumho TCR World Tour, is set to take place from November 10-12.

Recalling Past Achievements

As recently as February, an F1 car lapped Mount Panorama when Red Bull Racing reserve Liam Lawson demonstrated an RB7, the car which propelled Sebastian Vettel to the 2011 world drivers’ championship. James Golding also achieved a remarkable under two-minute lap in an S5000 at last year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.
