This S15 has been built to be equally good at both street and track duties.
“It all started back in 2000 following the Japanese drifting on Option DVDs. I still have them, too. I knew one day I’d get the chance to buy an S-chassis, and the S15 was the one I always loved and wanted to build the most” says this S15’s owner Aynsley Bezuidenhout.
“I built the car primarily for my own pleasure. I do enjoy the occasional drift day, but I really enjoy circuit racing the most”. Aynsley has aspirations of one day entering the WTAC event in Sydney, with his eyes on the Clubsprint class for the road- (or rally-) registered cars.
“Sourcing parts from Japan has been the hardest part of the build. But trying to find the right components to suit the way it looks and make it that little bit more unique is a lot of fun, I must say. I love this thing! And it goes great, too. The footwork has all been changed to aftermarket components – Buddyclub coils, G-Tech arms all over and bushes have all been replaced”.
In addition to the track time the car sees plenty of street time with Ainsley attending his share of meet-ups as well. As such the mods are all deliberately done to keep the car looking street-legal. The bodykit provides a noticeable effect on the track but still clears the ground adequately, the SR20DET engine has been modified but there aren’t any defect-magnets like an exposed filter or a BOV dumping to the atmosphere, and since there’s no cage the removed bits of interior can go back in any time with just a bit of spanner work.
