Astill Design's BOSS XC Getting Ready For Summernats 35

Howard Astill is a 3x Summernats Grand Champion, so you could say he knows a thing or two about building street machines. The latest build coming out of Astill Design is nothing short of mind blowing. It’s the combination of an FG and XC Falcon, where old meets new in more than one way.

What started out as a Ford XC Falcon has now become what Howard calls a “hybrid”. The floor of the FG Falcon was slotted into the XC along with the FG firewall. This led Howard to give the XC a full interior that’s based around an FG, with many parts remoulded and changed to make it blend into the XC seamlessly - interior work is being carried out by Simon from Elite Custom Interiors.

It’s without question that the bodywork will be something to admire, with so many features of the build done to give it a ‘factory’ look, but no doubt with an elite touch.

Under the bonnet of BOSS XC will be exactly that, a Jon Kaase BOSS Nine 429ci engine that punches out 700hp. The rear end is home to a Kugel IRS which is fed power through a ZF six-speed automatic that's been built to handle the horsepower.

Summernats judge and Performance Garage contributor, Owen Webb, caught up with Howard Astill at his workshop to check out BOSS XC right before the big push to fit it all up ready for Summernats 35. In the video they go over how the build came about, how it’s evolved and what we can expect to see when it graces the grounds of Exhibition Park In Canberra this January 5-8. Check out the video!
