AN AUSSIE PRO STREET PIONEER IS MAKING A COMEBACK!

Regardless of whether you’re a committed Holden fan, a blue-blooded Ford lover or - for whatever misfortune may have become you - you’re in to Chryslers, there isn’t a muscle car nut in the country that doesn’t know about Phil Rillotta’s famous PROST1 blown LC Torana.

Anyone with access to a computer has seen the wild footage of this icon of the Australian Pro Street scene decked out with white ribbons, knocking those huge rear tyres off in a mate’s driveway.

Or perhaps you’re more familiar with the grainy handycam footage of it, filmed car-to-car from another vehicle as it casually cruises the streets of its hometown of Adelaide one evening, fighting its way through the mechanical injection as the Weiand blower whines away.

In any case, it’s the kind of car that leaves an impression, and it’s hard to deny that it truly was a pioneer of the Aussie Pro Street Movement, seeing as it was built in the early 90s.

It’s kept a fairly low profile for the last few years, but popped up on our radar when the team from the Adelaide Auto Expo hinted at its imminent return. Our research turned up the following photos of it in the build on the Rillotta & Co. Customs Facebook page.

The Weiand supercharged it campaigned throughout the 90s has been swapped out for a Kuhl unit, dressed with mechanical fuel injection and sitting atop an impeccably detailed small block Chev’ just like back in the day.

Inside, the cage appears to have had a few tweaks, and judging by the giant rear wheel tubs, the polished aluminium interior will make a return! Thankfully, however, with the shiny rear firewall removed we can get a glimpse of the new fabricated 9in diff’ housing. Like the rest of the car, it’s impeccably detailed and we’re hoping its bright red colour is a hint as to the fate of the rest of the car.

The front end looks super trick - a new, bright red crossmember has had just about every piece of hardware hanging off it chromed, suggesting that the LC’s first port of call might be the show scene, instead of the street or race track?

Just because PROST1 has been out of action doesn’t mean the Rillotta family have stayed away from the scene - the Rillotta Motorsport’s Sonny’s-powered Camaro drag car was on site at The Bend to help the National Drag Racing Championship announce South Australia’s newest drag strip as the NDRC season opener!
