America's Wild All-Holden Car Show

In a field in Indianapolis, a 300-strong pride of Lion-badged Chevys gathered to celebrate Australia’s favourite automaker.

Replacing your Commodore’s Holden badge with a Chevy bow tie caught the ire of the internet in the early 2000s, but I can think of more than one company that made their fortune selling giant Chev badges to enthusiastic Commodore owners, keen to market their car’s LS engine (mind you, it wasn’t uncommon to see them fitted to V6 vehicles either, which was pretty concerning).

So you can imagine our shock when, in a field in Indianapolis, Indiana, rows upon rows of Holden-badged Chevrolet G8s were lined up - familiar enough to be reality, but strange enough to almost be fiction!

The event is called Outback In The Midwest and has been running for several years, but has recently grown to over 300 entered vehicles and almost 700 spectators - the event is growing so large that even Aussie performance legends Harrop Engineering mobilised the American arm of their business to have a trade stand at the event!

Like any good Aussie car show, Outback In The Midwest boasts a burnout comp’ and a ‘cookout’ (hey guys, if you want it to be genuine we’d call it a BBQ) and even the opportunity for State-side Holden fans to camp out if they like.
