Pro Comp Custom's 1950 Mercury Coupe Wins Ridler Award

Pro Comp short description

Luigi Deriggi's Pro Comp Custom built 1950 Mercury Coupe has taken out the 2023 Ridler Award at the Detroit Autorama event. Taking out arguably the biggest award in the custom car scene is no easy feat, with Luigi dreaming of building a Ridler-winning car for decades.

The 1950 Mercury Coupe sits on an Art Morrison Enterprise chassis, with Air Ride suspension all round to give it that crazy low stance. The custom 22-inch (r) and 20-inch (f) rims tucked up under the big coupe's guards are a one off built by Chris Boyd, and the whole car is dipped in a brilliant candy Root Beer paint. As to be expected, no stone has been left unturned with custom built headlights and tailights and a fabricated one-off grille.

The coupe is powered by a Borla fuel injected Ford Coyote V8, tied to an AOD transmission. The engine bay features some impressive paint and fabrication work hiding all the nasty stuff, making sure all eyes are on the gorgeous polished donk. The Coyote is finished with custom Mercury valve covers and a custom mandrel bent stainless-steel exhaust.

The interior work was done by Paul Atkins Custom Auto Interiors featuring a custom paint matched dash hosting a variety of Dakota Digital gauges and a very special custom steering wheel by Sparc Industries.

It's two in a row for Pro Comp Custom who also built the amazing 1931 Chevy coupe that ran away with the Ridler award last year.
