10 Street Elite Rides From Meguiar's MotorEx 2023

Picking your favourite cars at an event like Meguiar’s MotorEx is no easy feat, considering it plays host to close to 700 of Australia’s very best rides.

Every year, we see some of the best street driven elite rides in the country park up amongst the MotorEx Street Elite Showcase, a display full of cars built and judged to an elite standard, that must remain registered (or have proof that it is eligible to be registered) to qualify for the showcase. Amongst a sea of absolute quality, we picked out ten cars we thought were pretty epic on display at the show.

Matt McIntosh - 1956 Ford F100

Matt McIntosh made waves at Summernats 35 after unveiling his killer twin-turbo HQ Statesman which also made an appearance in the Meguiar’s Superstars (and qualified for the Super Six), but he also had this epic 600ci big block Ford F100 on display in the Show Pavilion. Its complete with a chopped roof, inner tubs, a fully smoothed engine bay and plenty of other goodies. Its low stance is thanks to some bagged suspension which helps tuck the massive 22-inch (front) and 24-inch (rear) wheels.

Stef Milonas - 1988 Holden VN Commodore

We’ve seen this one in the MotorEx halls before, and boy it always brings a crowd. Its striking Formula Red paint job matched up with a killer smoothed engine bay and the rare as rocking horse VN group A manifold sitting front and centre just immediately grabs your attention. If you get an even closer look, you really start to appreciate the sheer work that’s gone into the car. The interior features a fully custom false floor, roll cage, billet switches and accessories, custom trimmed interior pieces and more. If you ever get the chance, be sure to spend some time checking this thing out!

Bernie Roeschmann - 1967 Ford XR Falcon

Bernie’s Sage Gold Ford XR Falcon was a popular pick for punters all weekend long, sitting right next to the Shannons stage over the weekend. Its pro-street look and stunning elite paint job really popped, and checking out that gorgeous engine bay was a real treat. Inside sits a 372ci Gurney-Eagle headed Windsor motor, with gorgeous custom trumpets made to suit the webber injection. You might even notice they’re bolted straight to the head - there’s no intake manifold here. Man, we’d love to hear this thing making some noise!

Ignatius Doulkeridis - 2001 Nissan 200sx S15

Amidst a sea of street machines it's nice to spot a classic 90s Japanese car built to an elite standard. Ignatius brought out his recently finished S15 which has had a complete makeover after serving as his daily driver for the two years prior to the build. The entire car has been stripped and tidied up, complete with a gorgeous custom House of Kolor Candy red paint job. The interior looks just as good as the exterior, and the fully re-built SR20 is certain to make it drive just as good as it looks.

Ray Elia - Holden VN Commodore SS Group A Replica

What started life as a pretty out of shape VN Berlina has been totally transformed by our mates at Lowe Fabrication into an absolute monster blown, Group A SS tribute car, complete with a tubbed front and rear end, and a blown LS2 engine featuring a Blower Shop 8/71 supercharger. We could speak about it for hours, but you can check out the video we did a short while ago here.

Tim Laidler - 1988 HDT VL SV88

Another mega car we’ve already featured on our channels, but we couldn’t bare leave this thing off the list. Sitting front and centre at MotorEx, Tim’s VL is just as impactful as it is powerful. We could blabber on about just how cool this thing is, with its 22-inch wheels and insane blown big block engine, but we sent ol' mate JBens to catch up with Timmy at the show. Check it out here.

Ron Ziessler - 1972 Holden HQ

Ron’s HQ has been a build-in-progress since the early 90s, with years and years of hard work and effort to get to the point you see today. It was originally his daily driver, but after being inspired  after seeing other cars at shows he got stuck into building his dream HQ. It sits today with a gorgeous Super Maranello Red paint job, tubbed rear end with some serious rubber under the back. It’s got a few goodies under the hood, with VN group A heads, Wade cam special grind, VL Walkinshaw twin throttle injection and a MoTec ECU running the show.

Wayne Pulley - 1975 Ford Interceptor

As we walked through the Show Pavilion at MotorEx we came across a rather familiar face in Wayne Pulley’s Mad Max Ford Interceptor replica. Admittedly, we reckon this one has had a bit more work to bring it up to an elite standard, where Wayne has smoothed the entire bay and hidden all that nasty wiring. It sits as it would in the movie, and any Mad Max fan would get a kick out of checking this one out in person.

Jason Manswetto - 1969 Ford XW Falcon

Do we need to say much else? Jason’s Summernats conquering big-block XW Falcon (Summernats 34 Grand Champion) looked as good as ever as it sat up the front of the Show Pavilion at Meguiar’s MotorEx. '2ENIL8' blends the lines between elite-show car, wild street machine and incredible seven-second drag strip monster. It’s got to be one of the best Ford builds in the country. We’ve seen it hit the track a few times at events like Red CentreNATS - and it sounds and performs absolutely off tap.

Heath Van Der Waerden - 1979 Holden Torana

Epic bright colours, a 500hp stroked out 383ci Holden V8 with trumpets out the bonnet - what’s not to love? Heath’s A9X mock-up was popular all weekend long, with plenty of work done to this little Torry to help it stand out from the rest. There’s been plenty of chassis work and a stack of bracing all round the car, plus a huge one-off sunroof for some extra cool factor. The car just screams attention to detail, and the more you look at it the more you’ll find. The interior is as cool as ever, with a re-trimmed “fasion pack” sporting old-school Recaro seats, custom orange mesh headrests, stainless interior bracing, custom gauges and plenty more. Don’t even get us started on the custom Panasport 3-piece racing wheels - so good!

There’s plenty more rides we could talk about from MotorEx 2023, so who knows maybe we’ll make a part two in a few weeks. What was your favourite ride from the show?
