Eight Rad Red CentreNATS Rides

Red CentreNATS has been run and done for another year with entrants from all over the country converging on Alice Springs for a huge three days of horsepower.

Red CentreNATS 09 was a hit with a hive of epic cars making their way to Alice Springs for the show. As is usual with Red CentreNATS events, the variety on show was wild with everything from blown burnout cars, hot-rods, imports and of course a stack of Aussie Muscle. Here are 10 epic rides we spotted over the weekend:

Brendan Wright - 1964 Ford XM Falcon

Brendan rolled through scrutineering on Thursday after making the trek to Alice from NSW with this absolutely gorgeous XM coupe dubbed ‘FATXM’. The immediate draw-card to the coupe is the fat stance thanks to the gorgeous 19x12 Billet wheels tucked up under the rear guards and the high rise twin carb sticking out the reverse cowl on the bonnet.

Phil Anderson - 1932 Ford Delivery

Desert Springs local Phil Anderson caught plenty of looks over the weekend with his yellow 1932 Ford Delivery that towed a colour matched trailer with a miniature version of his car behind. The best part? Everything was built to an elite standard and the mini ’32 even ran thanks to a little 6 horsepower engine. We even saw Phil take it for a bit of a cruise in the carpark at Lasseters. Sick!

Lee Povey - 1987 Holden VL Calais

Lee’s ‘JKLHYD’ VL is a serious bit of kit, running a twin-turbo LS combination and sending its way into the 7 second bracket down the quarter mile. It’s goes just as good as it looks, thanks to an immaculate paint job, front and rear tubs and 20x12 inch Simmons wheels.

Dilan Saitz - 1923 Ford T-Bucket

Dilan brought his epic little T-Bucket rod to RCN09 to compete for the Red Centre Champion award, and boy did it deliver. Webby told us it scored extra well in the driving components thanks to its 350ci small-block Chev. It made an epic noise at the drags and looked epic doing it!

Michael Hinchy - 2014 Holden Commodore

Mick Hinchy made his Red CentreNATS debut in his CL1KB8 Commodore wagon and from what we can tell, he had a blast. The wagon burned rubber (and bits of the rear guard thanks to some fires on the pad) in the burnouts on Friday and Sunday and he also had a bit of fun in the Motorvation Supercruise.

Daniel Priestley - 1988 Nissan Patrol

We caught up with Daniel at the Great Northern 4WD track on Sunday after he impressed the crowd on the obstacle course. It was one of the top contenders at the 4WD course and the Patrol absolutely ate up all of the course. Best part? He drove it over 2000km’s to get there, and he has another 2000km’s to get home!

Matt Watts - 1976 Toyota Corolla

If you had to define ‘party car’, you’d just show them Wattsy’s ‘BLOUP’ Corolla. The blown 5.3 litre LS combo makes for a hell of a time out on the track, and we spotted Wattsy having a blast in the Motorvation Supercruise on Sunday before winning himself a wildcard ticket to Summernats 36 in January.

Craig Wright - 1984 Holden VK

Craig’s blown blue-meanie made an impact right from the get go as it rolled through scrutineering. It spits out 1150hp at the wheels thanks to an 8/71 blower hanging out the bonnet, and it absolutely looks the part lowered on some huge 22x12 inch Simmons.
